FRANK CURTO + SCHENLEY PARK

CLIMBING AREAS

WORK DAY – BUILDING STAIRS

Saturday, Sept. 30 | Sunday, Oct. 1

Downtown Pittsburgh, PA

Join SWPACC Volunteers on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 + October 1, 2023 for the final push on wrapping up one of Climb Pittsburgh’s crowning achievements – adding stairs to Frank Curto Park’s Climbing Area and wrapping up some trail work at Schenley Park’s Climbing Area! For Frank Curto, the city of Pittsburgh has generously donated the stone blocks, but we need YOU to help install each step. SWPACC has the tools and the know-how, but we need all hands on deck to get the job done.

Volunteers need no experience and do not need to be able to lift heavy objects. There will be plenty of work for people of all abilities and skill-sets. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and bring your own water and snacks. Lunch will be provided around noon!

Please register below. We need to know who is coming, so we can better plan to make this an effective day for all.

Work day leaders will be present all day long from 8a-5p (or later), but aim to break the day into two chunks for volunteers.

  • Saturday, Sept. 30
    • Session 1: 8a-12p
    • Lunch: 12-1p
    • Session 2: 1-5p
  • Sunday, Oct. 1
    • 10a-3p either at Schenley or at Frank Curto depending on if there’s still work to do.

See photos below from the start of this project a few weeks back.

Cheers to Dick Watson who is one of oldest SWPACC members and also has as many volunteer hours as anyone!

One step at a time.

A&S committe brainstormed best ways to move the blocks down the steep hill.  This was the result that has worked very well. (Patent pending 😉

After day 2!

City provided 43 stones for us to use for the staircase.
